UAW Wants New Agreement
March 5th, 2009 admin
The healthy businesses just keep getting worse, day by day, for Atlantic City (AC) casinos. Consequently, two of AC casinos are expected to be sold very soon though the current proprietors can be in for a battle just before the sales go on. The two casinos are Tropicana Casino and Resort, & Trump Marina Hotel Casino.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) is the representing dealers at the Tropicana Casino and Resort. It wants a new agreement for their workers. UAW understands what is happening financially, but till now they believe there is middle ground that can be reached in negotiations. A Tropicana dealer Ernestine Dawkins said “We know these are hard times for Tropicana and for all the casinos. We’re not asking for the moon. We just want a fair agreement, that’s why we voted for our union in the first place.” It is noted that Tropicana is not the only casino that the union is going after aggressively. The UAW has already won the right to have a re-vote. If they win, they will start negotiations with owners Trump Entertainment Resorts. On the other hand, Trump Marina Hotel Casino initially did not have to worry about the union.
The ironic part of the present situation is that both of the casino owners can be negotiating a contract for other companies. The casinos are now in the process of being sold and whatever deal is reached will be part of the sale. In the circumstances, the union has threatened to strike at Tropicana. Already dealers and slot technicians have authorized the strike. However, they have yet to act on it. An ongoing talks are continue in the hopes that any suitable agreement can be reached. So, the people are waiting to see how the conclusion comes.
